Foxhunting with Pony Club!

This was a great experience for both Adriana and I. I have never been on a fox hunt and thought it was completely different than what it was. Most of the time there is no animals harmed in the hunt. It is the thrill of the hunt and most members hope the animal will run into its hole so it will be there again for the next hunt.
Everything about fox hunting is all based on tradition and practicality. We had an hour of classroom work where we learned everything about how fox hunting began and what everything on their outfits stand for. I won't go into detail about it all but I'm sure it is all on line to look at.
Anyway, here is the three ladies that took us on our hunt and this is the outfits they wear.

They only do unmounted hunts here so they use basset hounds. A lot of the mounted hunts use beagles because they are a faster dog.
Here they are loading the dogs into the truck to take to the spot we will be hunting at.

A few pictures of some of the pony clubbers helping out with the hunt.

Dusty showing Adriana where they are hunting at.

The pony clubbers watching and following the hunt. If you are not with one of the three women then we are to stand back and watch the hunt. The older lady, Laura, is the master of hunt and the other two ladies are on each side keeping the dogs in line. Everyone else is called "staff" and they sit back to observe the hunt.

After spending a lot of time just watching, Adriana finally got to go off with the master hunter and she was so excited!

During the hunt, the dogs cannot be played with or talked to as the are "working". After the hunt the girls had lots of fun playing with these playful little guys!

This was a lot of fun and a great experience for all the pony club girls! It was a success as we saw many rabbits they were able to "hunt" but no animals were hurt! The beautiful weather that day helped it to be a great time too! I hope it is something we will be able to do again sometime!
