Joey's tonsils!

A couple of months ago we did a sleep study on Joey because Dr. Dorfman thought that Joey might have sleep apnea. Well it looks like he does and we were referred to an ENT to have a look at Joey. So we met up with Dr. Clary and after going over Joey's sleep study and talking with him about how Joey naps so much during the day, he thought it would be best if he went ahead and removed Joey's tonsils and adnoids.
So on 4/19/11 we headed down to St. John's hospital to have Joey's surgery. Joey was great about it and would tell anyone who would listen that he was getting his tonsils out. Even when we got to the hospital he was good with everything except for when they told him he would have to remove his monster truck shirt and put on his hospital scrups, that did cause a bit of a fight. But he was quickly better and back to his funny ole self.
Here he is showing me his tonsils one last time....

Then they gave him a "kiddie cocktail" as it is called. It is something that will help calm him down as they take him away. Joey was hilarious and was playing with the bed and kept saying "I don't think this is a good idea".

He was having a great time and was fine even when they came to wheel him away. He did take "bear bear" along with him to have his surgery.

The surgery went great! But soon after the doctor came in to talk to us, a nurse came to get me and bring me back to recovery. Joey was awake and not happy! When I got back to the room a nurse was holding Joey and trying to calm him down. I ran over to him and tried to calm him down too. He was crying and kept yelling that he couldn't see. The nurses said he had double vision that would be better soon. He was like a crazy animal climbing on my head and pulling my hair. The nurses let him drink some apple juice and he quickly threw that up. After about 15 minutes of this, he finally calmed down and was able to fall asleep. After a short nap, we were able to go back to our room. They kept us at the hospital for 6 hours after his surgery then we were finally able to go home. Chris filled Joey's prescription and we attempted to give Joey his pain meds. It didn't go so well as Joey threw it up. He continued doing that everytime we tried to give him medicine so I had to switch to just tylenol the next day. Joey continued to not eat or drink anything and was crying every hour during the night. We weighed him a couple of days later and he had lost 1 1/2 lbs. I called the doctor and they said they would have to see him if he continues to not eat or drink. Thankfully over the weekend he finally began to eat and drink small amounts and was finally only waking up about 4-5 times during the night. He is now almost back to normal thankfully and continues to get better each day. He has gained back a pound he lost and has his appetite back. Now comes the hard part of cutting back his ice cream eating :) Now we will just keep our fingers crossed that his sleep apnea is all better and we won't have to do anything more for it!
