Cades Cove and finally the last of the pictures

Yeah! I'm finally down to my last set of pictures from our trip. I won't bore you with a lot of pictures that we took of the animals in Cades Cove. So I just chose one of the pictures of the deer. It shows you how close I got to it and it didn't even flinch. I probably could have walked up to it and hand feed it. I thinks its a really pretty picture, it almost doesn't look real but I promise I did take it :) After our drive through Cades Cove, Chris and I decided to take the kids on a hay ride back through the park. The kids thought this was so much fun! We counted 113 deer we saw as we drove back through, thats amazing! But no bears this time. We did see a coyote, but I wasn't able to get a picture of it in time.
On Friday we headed back out to Cades Cove to go horseback riding. On the way we did stop to see three bears. I believe it was a momma bear and two cubs. I really didn't even attempt to get that close to the bears. The pictures aren't that great of the bears but you can at least see two of them. Here we area getting ready to go horseback riding. Kids were supposed to be 6 years old, but since Adriana has been riding since she was 3 years old that went ahead and let her go. Heck, she could probably ride better than a lot of people anyway. And she did awesome. Her horse was a hungry one and kept walking off the trail to go eat but she did good keeping control of him and getting him back on the trail. I was a little worried at first but she rode him around like a pro. Heres a picture of her climbing up on her horse. And her sitting up on the horse. Here is Chris, Adriana, and I riding away on our horses. Our last tourist stop was another small waterfall and beautiful view. The picture hardly does it justice. But here it is anyway. And one last picture of Chris and I.Friday night Chris and I spent packing everyone up and getting our vehicle ready to leave the next day. So Maw Maw kept the kids entertained playing bingo with them. And so our vacation comes to an end. And sadly we head home for our 10 hour drive. But Maw Maw and Paw Paw made sure the kids left happy and gave them each a halloween goody bag. So we had a 10 hour drive with kids hyped up on chocolate.......thanks again Maw Maw and Paw Paw, we owe you big time!!!!! That was probably the longest drive of my life!!!!!:) Here is a picture of Andrew devouring his chocolate:

In memory of Sgt. Mike King

My heart was broken early this morning when I was awoke by news that a friend and co-worker was killed during the night. Mike King, who I worked with for several years in University City was executed while sitting in his patrol car. A soul less, selfish bastard walked up to Mike who was simply sitting in his patrol car and just started shooting at him until Mike was killed then cowardly drove off. I'm having a really hard time understanding why someone can be that ignorant to human life and just kill someone like that. Mike was the kind of friend that put everyone else needs ahead of his own. He was a great officer and took his job very seriously. He loved being a police officer and it always showed in his work. We would always joke with him about being so serious, but that was just Mike. No matter if it was a missing dog call or a shooting, every call was important to him and would make us take it very serious as well. I regret not telling him how much he meant to me and what a great friend he was. I sit here wondering if he knew how much we all respected him even though we often joked with him. My heart also breaks for Susan as she recieved the worst news of her life last night. I pray that she finds the strength to get through this as well as the rest of the family that loved Mike so much. What is the world coming to that people no longer have respect for life and can just kill someone for no reason. I'm just so angry and wish I could find answers for why this had to happen. I know Mike is in a better place, somewhere where he no longer has to watch his back all the time and see all the negatives the world can bring. He is peaceful now and in a place where he no longer sees the bad but only happy things.
I have a picture of Mike and Susan from my wedding reception that I will try to scan and post as a memory of a great man! You are always loved Mike and I will pray for Susan and the rest of your family.

Sightseeing and Laurel Falls

On Thursday we did more sightseeing and headed up to Laurel Falls.
Here is a creek we stopped at and played.
Adriana playing in the creek. We stopped off at an old farm house and got to see how they lived in horse and carriage days. They still had live animals there and here Adriana is chasing a chicken.Andrew joining her in the chase.
The kids sitting on the porch of the old log cabin.Andrew checking out some of the old farm equipment.I tried to explain to the kids about how people used to live. How there was no air conditioning and the only heat they had came from a fire. There was no TV, no video games, no computers, etc. I'm not sure they were understanding yet maybe next time we visit they will.
Here is a picture of another view. I'm actually not really sure where we were for this one other than the smokey mountains......ha! We visited so many places its hard to keep track now.We took another hike up to Laurel Falls. This one was a little longer, but not all straight up hill. But notice here that Chris is carrying Andrew.....yes, I still wised up and kept the back pack carrier with Joey.We finally made it to the Falls. Not quite what I was expecting, but it was still really beautiful.A family picture in front of the falls.Maw Maw and Pa Paw and the kids in front of the falls. On the way back down, Adriana had to keep stopping and posing for pictures. Of course with the beautiful scenery, momma couldn't help but oblige and take the pictures :)Andrew had to join in on the picture taken but he just chose to have his picture taken by big rocks. And thats the difference between boys and girls!!!!But he did stop for a big cheese while Daddy was carrying him back to the car. After our hike we stopped off for a picnic to help recharge ourselves.Which of course was near another creek. So heres the kids playing by the creek again.
I promise after this I am almost done with the pictures. I just have Cades Cove on Thursday and Friday left. I told you I took over 500 pictures. I won't bore you with all of them and its hard to choose my favorites when there are so many good ones. Hopefully only one more post.

Apalachian Trail and Clingman's Dome

On Wednesday we headed out to do some sightseeing. We first stopped at the Appalachian Trail. This trail goes all the way up to the state of Maine. We didn't make it that far, but we did walk a little bit of it with the kids. On the way back down, Adriana asked everyone that walked past us if they were walking to the end and of course everyone said no :)
Here is a picture of Adriana and Joey with a beautiful view of the mountains behind them. All three of the kids.Of course Adriana had to have a picture by herself.Isn't this so sweet! Hopefully it stays like this when we come back in 5 years ;)Chris and Andrew walking down the trail. The map of the trail. Only1400 miles to the top!The state line for Tennessee and North Carolina.Next we headed up to Clingman's Dome. It is the highest point in the mountains. The hike is only half a mile, but it doesn't mention that its straight up....ugh! Chris decided to be a gentleman and put the backpack on so I wouldn't have to carry Joey. Instead, I got stuck carrying Andrew!!!! I don't know why we thought it would hike it all himself! Before we left I had bought the kids a camera that they could use to take pictures from the trip. Well on one of my breaks with Andrew he decided to take a picture of me taking a picture of him....ha! I wonder how all these pictures are going to turn out :)Finally we made it to the top! I don't think I had ever been so relived! Here is Joey trying to get a glimpse of the beautiful view!A picture of the view, which of course doesn't do it any justice! The four of us at the top. Adriana was still back with Maw Maw and Paw Paw. Maw Maw said she had to keep encouraging Adriana to make it up the hill (I don't think she was about to get a free ride up!)Finally! Here comes the slowpokes!A picture of my boys!Ah.....see I got smart, notice I now have the back pack on and guess who is carrying Andrew?!Another family portrait.Another view of the mountains.

Dixie Stampede

On Tuesday night we went to the Dixie Stampede Dinner and Show. We weren't allowed to take any pictures of the show so there's not too many pictures from here.
Here is Adriana posing with one the girls. Joey, the lady's man!
The horses fighting before the show began. Kind of reminds me of my kids.......ha!Adriana got picked to go down and chase the chickens during the show. She was the only girl with 3 other boys. Here and her partner actually won! She got a gold medal and a book for winning.
Here she is introducing herself.Hey, Adriana! You run like a girl! But she does cross the finish line!Getting her medal.
